Is it permissible to chastise people constantly with a stick and rebuke them?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The fundamental principle in inviting to Allah and addressing sinners is gentleness and kindness. "Kindness does not exist in anything without adorning it, and it is not removed from anything without disgracing it." Allah commanded Moses and Aaron to speak to Pharaoh with gentle words, and He states: "Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best." This era requires patience, gentleness, and wisdom in conveying the message. Therefore, whoever uses reprimand with sinners without necessity should be advised and reminded of the importance of gentleness and kindness, unless severity becomes the only way for admonition and it is known that other approaches will not be effective. As for corporal punishment, it is reserved for the ruler.
