How are the two prayers combined, and what is meant by combining prayers by delaying (jam‘ al-ta’kheer) and advancing (jam‘ al-taqdeem) due to necessity? Is it permissible to combine the Asr and Maghrib prayers due to the hardship of work in non-Islamic countries? Is this considered an ease with hardship?

There are two types of combining prayers: jam‘ taqdīm (performing them together during the time of the first prayer) and jam‘ ta’khīr (performing them together during the time of the second prayer). The Hanbalis permit combining the Dhuhr and Asr prayers, and the Maghrib and Isha prayers, if there is a hardship that prevents performing each prayer at its designated time, provided that this is not a permanent habit. As for combining the Asr prayer with the Maghrib prayer, it is forbidden by consensus. Prayer is an obligation, and abandoning it while denying its obligation is disbelief. Allah suffices those who fear Him and provides for them from where they do not expect. Provision is predestined, and what is with Allah can only be attained through obedience to Him.
