Is it permissible for a father to take back what he had previously given to his son?

A father is permitted to retract a gift given to his child if he deems it beneficial and the child is able to return it. This is based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "It is not lawful for a Muslim man to give a gift and then retract it, except for a father concerning what he gives to his child."
