Who killed Uthman ibn Affan?

Uthman ibn Affan, one of the foremost to embrace Islam and one of those given glad tidings of Paradise, and one of the most prominent who spent in the way of Allah, was absent from Badr to nurse his wife Ruqayyah. Because of him, the Pledge of Ridwan occurred. A group from Basra besieged him in his home after falsely accusing him with a forged document. He refused to hand over his scribe, Marwan ibn al-Hakam, fearing he would be killed, so they killed him.
