Is it permissible to perform Salatul-Istikhara (prayer for guidance) for choosing between three things?

Istikhara is a Sunnah that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, taught his Companions. It is performed when one is determined to do something, not merely for fleeting thoughts, and it was mentioned in the hadith narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with them both. There is no objection to performing Istikhara for a matter involving three or more options, but it must only be for something that a person is determined to do.
