What is the meaning of Umar’s (may Allah be pleased with him) saying to the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him): "We have not given baseness in our religion"?

Umar's (may Allah be pleased with him) saying, "Why should we accept humiliation in our religion?" referred to the conditions of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, which seemed unjust to the Muslims. These included returning Muslim fugitives to Quraysh, while Quraysh would not return any of their people who joined the Muslims. Outwardly, these conditions appeared to be humiliating and detrimental to the Muslims. However, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was more knowledgeable of what was in their best interest. He explained to Umar and Abu Bakr that what had occurred was the essence of wisdom, and that victory was inevitably coming.
