Are the "people of the step" a category of believers whom God has honored by making distances shorter for them?

The name "Companions of the Step" (أصحاب الخطوة) is not mentioned in the Quran, Sunnah (definition), or the sayings of the Pious Predecessors. However, it is known among some Sufis as referring to saints of Allah for whom distances are supernaturally covered. Miracles (khawariq al-'adat) can occur for the saints of Allah as an honor, or for prophets as miracles, and they can also occur for the allies of Satan as a means of delusion and misguidance. The legitimate criterion for distinguishing between the allies of Allah and the allies of Satan is faith, adherence to the Sunnah, and firm adherence to Allah's law, not the extraordinary occurrences that may happen to both groups. For the allies of Allah are "those who believed and were ever conscious of Allah" (Yunus: 62-63), and "Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you" (Al-Hujurat: 13), just as the love of Allah is attained by following the Messenger.
