Ibn Arabi is Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Muhammad al-Ta'i al-Andalusi, one of the extremists of Sufism. Scholars said about him that his books contradict the revealed scriptures and the words of the prophets, and that they contain anthropomorphism (likening Allah to His creation), a denial of the warnings (of punishment), a claim that the transcendent Truth is the likened creation, a belief in the validity of Noah's people worshipping idols, and that the people of Hud were relieved of the heat of Hell. Many imams declared him a disbeliever, such as Judge Badr al-Din ibn Jama'ah, Shams al-Din Muhammad ibn Yusuf al-Jazari al-Shafi'i, Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibn Hajar, Ibn Khaldun, al-Subki, and Abu Zur'ah, the son of al-Hafiz al-Iraqi. It was also mentioned that the jurist Abu Muhammad ibn Abd al-Salam described him as "an evil, repulsive shaykh who believes in the eternity of the world and does not forbid any sexual act." Ibn Taymiyyah said that Ibn Arabi claims that the created is a part of the Creator, and that this is a greater disbelief than that of the Jews, Christians, and idol worshipers, and that he should be killed.
