What is the meaning of the name Usaid, and did any of the reciters during the time of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, bear this name?

Usayd, with an open 'a' sound (أسيد), is the name of seven Companions. With a closed 'u' sound (أُسيد), it is the name of eight Companions, among them Usayd ibn Hudayr, one of the chieftains at al-Aqabah, and one of the people with the most beautiful voices when reciting the Qur’an. The angels descended to listen to his recitation, and had he continued reciting, the people would have been able to see them. As for the meaning of Usayd with an open 'a' sound, it comes from the Arabic verb "asada al-rajul," meaning "the man became like a lion." With a closed 'u' sound, it is a diminutive of "asad," meaning "lion," the predatory animal.
