How do you know the degree of your faith?
Faith is the greatest treasure a servant possesses, and it increases and decreases in strength and weakness. The measure of faith is the extent of a servant’s love for what Allah and His Messenger love, and their hatred for what Allah and His Messenger hate; prioritizing what they prioritized and delaying what they delayed; and not prioritizing anything over the command of Allah. A sign of faith is also the servant’s diligence in acts of worship and perfecting the deeds of the heart, tongue, and limbs. Al-Junayd was asked about the sign of faith, and he replied that it is obedience to the One in whom one believes, acting upon what He loves and is pleased with, and abandoning preoccupation with what is fleeting and perishable. So, whoever wishes to know the degree of their faith should examine their state. If they are desirous of good and keen on it, busy rectifying their outward and inward states, loving the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, and revering commands and prohibitions, then these are signs of the strength of their faith. And to the extent that any of that diminishes, their faith diminishes. If they find deficiency and defect in their acts of obedience, they should repent to their Lord and strive to rectify that.
