Will the People of the Book enter Paradise, or is it forbidden for them, and what is the Shar'i evidence for that?

The term "People of the Book" in the Quran and Sunnah usually refers to Jews and Christians, though it may be restricted to Jews depending on the context. As for their entry into Paradise, anyone among them who dies while remaining a Jew or a Christian, and has not embraced Islam and believed in the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is an unbeliever whom Allah has forbidden from Paradise, and their abode is the Fire. This is indicated by the texts of the Book, the Sunnah, and scholarly consensus. Allah the Almighty says: (Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture - [fight them] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled.) And (They have certainly disbelieved who say that Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary) [Al-Ma'idah:72], and (They have certainly disbelieved who say that Allah is the third of three) [Al-Ma'idah:73]. And the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "By Him in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, no one from this nation, neither a Jew nor a Christian, hears of me and then dies without believing in that with which I was sent, except that he will be among the inhabitants of the Fire."
