What is the difference between a hypocrite and someone who is courteous, or between hypocrisy and courtesy, and is this difference similar to that between a bribe and a gift?

Hypocrisy (nifaq) is the outward display of faith while concealing disbelief. Among its types is practical hypocrisy, such as lying, breaking promises, and betrayal. As for courtesy (mujamalah), it is treating people kindly and in a way that pleases them according to custom. It has been stated in the definition of courtesy that it is refraining from responding to an opponent despite having the ability to do so, in order to preserve affection, or refraining from responding to someone who cannot reply, while harboring resentment.
