Is it true that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "He who can perform Hajj and does not, let him choose to die a Jew or a Christian"?

The Hadith: "He who owns provisions and a mount that would take him to the House of Allah and does not perform Hajj, then it does not matter if he dies a Jew or a Christian" is very weak. The narration by Al-Tirmidhi includes Hilal ibn Abdullah, who is unknown, and Al-Harith, who is weak. The narration by Al-Darimi includes Layth, who is weak, and Shareek, who has a poor memory. The narration by Ibn Adi and Ibn al-Jawzi includes Yazid ibn Sufyan, whose Hadith is abandoned, and Abd al-Rahman al-Qutami, who is a liar. The narration by Al-Na'ali includes Muhammad ibn Abdullah, who is accused of fabricating Hadith.

However, something similar to this statement has been authentically reported from Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him.
