The preponderant view from Ibn Taymiyyah's statements is that the night to which the last third is attributed ends at sunrise, not at the break of dawn (Fajr), because he mentioned the other view in a hypothetical form. There is no difference between the night to which the last third or half is attributed; both are calculated as ending at sunrise according to the first view, and at the break of dawn according to the second view. Ibn Taymiyyah explicitly stated that when jurists use the terms "a third of the night" or "half of the night," it is similar to their usage of "half of the day."
