Is it permissible to fast the month of Ramadan when post-partum bleeding (nifas) stops before completing forty days?

The maximum duration of lochia (postnatal bleeding) is forty days according to the majority of scholars. If the bleeding stops before this period, the woman is obligated to pray and fast, and what was forbidden to her becomes permissible. If the bleeding reappears within the forty days, she must refrain from what was obligatory upon her or permissible for her until the period is complete.
