Is repentance accepted after aborting an illegitimate pregnancy at five months of gestation?

Abortion without a compelling reason is a grave transgression, especially if the soul has already been breathed into the fetus. Repentance is possible, for Allah accepts those who turn to Him. Allah Almighty says: "Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'" Abortion necessitates the payment of blood money (Diyah) by the one who performed it, and expiation (Kaffarah) is also required according to most scholars.
