What is the ruling on keeping photographic or drawn, non-corporeal images on walls or in drawers, and do they prevent the entry of angels?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Pictures of things that do not possess a soul, such as trees and natural landscapes, are permissible. As for pictures of living beings, it is not permissible to hang them, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Indeed, the house in which there are pictures, the angels do not enter it," and due to his (peace be upon him) command to efface pictures. However, if the pictures are debased, like those on pillows or things that are trodden upon, then they are permissible, though it is safer to avoid them.
