Is it permissible for a Muslim woman to express to a Muslim man her admiration for him and her desire to marry him, or is that considered audacity?

There is no harm in a woman expressing her desire to marry, but it is preferable that the proposal comes from her guardian (wali) or his representative, as Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) did when he offered his daughter Hafsa to Abu Bakr and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them).
