What is the ruling on keeping money in banks and taking fixed interest on it, given that the state permits this by saying "there is no usury between the individual and the state," and there is currently no other safe place to store money? And what is the ruling on the interest that has already been received and spent on daily living expenses?
"Bank profits are usury (riba), which is forbidden, as its prohibition has been established by the Quran, the Sunnah, and the consensus of the Ummah. Its prohibition becomes even stricter when people conspire to engage in it and establish laws to regulate it. The argument that permits the forbidden, 'there is no usury between an individual and the state,' is false. As for the profits that have already been spent, one must dispose of an equivalent amount from their lawful (halal) money, repent to Allah by withdrawing funds from usurious banks, regret dealing with them, and resolve not to return to such dealings."
