The question

What is the ruling on reciting the supplication "May God grant you success" for artists and their saying "Praise be to God... this is success from God," and is that considered an offense to God? And what is the evidence for that from the Qur'an and Sunnah?

The answer

If artists engage in forbidden acts such as playing music, it is not permissible to supplicate for their success in these acts, nor is it permissible for them to claim that their success in them is a divine favor from Allah. Rather, it is a dereliction. True divine favor is guidance and steadfastness in obedience, and the greatest dereliction is misguidance.
