Is it conceivable for a disbeliever to return to disbelief after witnessing the horrors of the Day of Judgment, were he to be returned to this world, as stated in His — the Most High — saying: (And if they were returned [to life], they would return to that which they were forbidden)?

Allah Almighty explains the state of the disbelievers on the Day of Judgment. When they see the Fire, they will wish to return to the world to believe, but Allah disproves them and affirms that even if they were returned, they would revert to what they were forbidden from. The Almighty indicates that this is the state of every stubborn and arrogant person; if harm is removed from them, they return to the falsehood they were upon. The Quranic verses confirm that if man is touched by harm, he supplicates to Allah, but when the harm is removed from him, he turns away and reverts to his previous state.
