When does the waiting period for a woman whose husband died on Dhu al-Qi'dah 23, 1436 A.H., end?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The 'iddah (waiting period) for a woman whose husband has passed away is four months and ten days, as Allah Almighty says: "And those of you who die and leave wives behind them, they (the wives) shall wait (as regards their marriage) for four months and ten days." So, if a woman's husband passed away on the 23rd of Dhul-Qa'dah, her 'iddah would end on the third day of Rabi' al-Thani if Dhul-Qa'dah was a full month, and on the fourth day of it if it was an incomplete month. However, if the woman whose husband passed away is pregnant, her 'iddah ends upon delivery of her child, as Allah Almighty says: "And for those who are pregnant, their term is until they deliver their burdens."
