Marital problems are bound to occur, and they must be resolved with wisdom and deliberation. It is not permissible for a husband to be absent from his wife for more than six months except with her permission, nor is it forbidden to abandon one's wife without a legitimate reason. A husband marrying another woman is permissible, provided he is just; otherwise, he would be oppressive. The husband is not obligated to inform his wife of his intention to marry a second wife, and providing for the wife and children is obligatory. If the husband withholds maintenance, it is permissible for the wife to take from his money what suffices her and her children; otherwise, she should refer the matter to Islamic centers.
