The father's right over his son is great. Among his rights is to be financially supported by his son if he is poor. However, if he is not in need of money, he has no right to his children's wealth unless they voluntarily give it. Disputes regarding agency (wakalah) and guardianship (wilayah) are referred to the Sharia court. It is obligatory to honor and be benevolent to one's father, regardless of his condition. The fundamental principle is trustworthiness, and his actions should be interpreted in light of what is beneficial.
