Is it permissible for a wealthy Muslim, known by the title "Lord" in the United Kingdom, to call himself by this title, which is granted by the Queen to owners of specific lands?

The word "Lord" means "master" or "owner." Applying it to a Muslim of high standing is permissible, unless it is associated with something forbidden. Permissible things, such as clothing, food, or the use of titles, are forbidden if they are accompanied by arrogance, vanity, or the seeking of fame and loftiness, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "(Eat, give charity, and dress without extravagance or conceit)," and "(Whoever wears a garment of fame in this world, Allah will clothe him in a garment of humiliation on the Day of Resurrection)," and "(Whoever loves that men should stand up for him, let him prepare his seat in the Fire)." If the use of the title "Lord" is free from these prohibitions, then there is no harm in it; otherwise, it must be abandoned.
