Is it true that a mother's anger and Allah's anger fall upon a son if he refuses to replace his old clothes with new ones prepared by his mother, and he swears to that effect and then breaks his oath under the pressure of discussion and his mother's anger? And is expiation (kaffarah) for breaking the oath obligatory upon him? And is fasting sufficient for the expiation due to his financial inability?

Obedience to parents is conditional, and honoring them—especially the mother—is obligatory, as it contains good in this world and the Hereafter. If the new clothes do not involve any Sharia-prohibited matter, then the issue does not warrant all this disagreement with the mother, and she is not allowed to curse her child. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade cursing oneself, one's children, and one's wealth. The mother should not be angry merely because of the refusal to wear the new clothes. If you have not caused her any harm, then you are not disobedient. It is better for one to break one's oath to close the door of dispute, and an expiation for breaking an oath is required.
