How can I forget the teachers and students who wronged me with ridicule and beatings during my schooling, and how many good deeds will I take from them on the Day of Resurrection?
We advise you to forgive those who have wronged you so that you may receive your reward from Allah, as stated in His words: "So whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is due from Allah" and His saying: "But whoever patiently endures and forgives – indeed, that is of the matters [requiring] determination." And the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "And Allah does not increase a servant in anything due to forgiveness except in honor." This can be achieved by recalling the virtue of forgiveness, seeking Allah's help and supplicating, remembering stories of those who forgave like Yusuf (Joseph), peace be upon him, and Abu Bakr, and knowing that forgiveness is a reason for attaining Allah's forgiveness for you, as He Almighty said: "And let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allah should forgive you?" As for retribution on the Day of Judgment, it will be by taking from the good deeds of the wrongdoers or by placing the sins of the wronged upon them.
