If a Muslim is commanded to do something impermissible, he must avoid doing it, and obedience is not obligatory in an act of disobedience. This is based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "There is no obedience in disobedience to Allah; indeed, obedience is only in what is right," and his saying: "There is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator." If he is unable to avoid it and fears significant harm, then the sin is upon the one who compelled him to do so.
