What is the ruling on using artificial bait carved in the shape of animate beings for fishing?

It is permissible to eat game absolutely. As for bait in the form of a statue of a living creature, such as a fish, it is permissible according to the majority of jurists if its head is severed or if a part without which life cannot persist is removed from it, unlike what allows life to remain, in which case it is not permissible to possess it. So, if a part is cut from the statue without which animals cannot survive, such as its chest, or if it is given a separate head, it does not fall under the prohibition. The use of an image is permissible if the limb without which life cannot persist is severed from it, and this is the opinion of the majority of scholars. This applies whether it was originally made in a severed state, or if it was depicted complete and then a part without which life cannot persist was cut from it. It also applies whether it is erected or not.
