Ibn Hajar al-Haytami was a Shafi'i jurist with knowledge of Hadith. His books contain abundant good and excellent investigations. A student of knowledge should benefit from them while avoiding what he contradicted the Sunnah in. As for his declaring Ibn Taymiyyah to be misguided and an innovator, it is a slip on his part that is rejected, for Ibn Taymiyyah's standing in knowledge and in support of the religion is clear, and many have praised him, such as Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani.
