Has incense been mentioned in the Quran or Sunnah? Does the Islamic religion call for its use? Is it prohibited to smell incense before or after it is burned? And is it forbidden or reprehensible like cigarettes, or is it permissible?

Incense is permissible in principle, though circumstances may arise that make it commanded or forbidden. It has been authentically reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used incense and had others use it. As for inhaling incense, it is prohibited if its harm is proven in any way. It cannot be compared to cigarettes due to their impermissibility and extensive harms.
