What is the ruling on continuing a marriage that was contracted, and then the girl's family was surprised to find out that the suitor drinks alcohol, claiming that it does not intoxicate him, and he has no intention of quitting it? Should the girl continue with him and help him quit, or should she separate from him?

Drinking alcohol is a grave evil and a major sin. A Muslim must avoid both small and large quantities of it. The person who drinks alcohol should be advised to repent. If he repents, then there is no harm in completing the marriage. However, if he persists in drinking it, then divorce is more appropriate, and divorce before consummation is easier.
