Is it permissible to say, "Intercede for us, O Messenger of Allah, for we seek intercession from none but you"?

One should control their words and actions, speaking only what they are certain is true and free from prohibitions.

The statement "O Messenger of Allah, intercede for me with you" is inappropriate because it is ambiguous. It might carry an impermissible meaning, which is asking the Prophet (peace be upon him) for intercession now as a means of seeking closeness to Allah through him. Many scholars have forbidden this.

However, it might also be intended to convey what will happen on the Day of Resurrection, namely his intercession (peace be upon him) for people and his Ummah, and this is a sound meaning.

But as long as the phrase is open to interpretation, it is better to abandon it and adhere to what is free from doubt.
