What is the ruling on a wife insulting her husband and raising her voice at him, and a husband insulting, hitting, and humiliating his wife, whenever there is a difference of opinion?
It is impermissible for a woman to curse her husband or raise her voice at him, as this contravenes Allah’s command to obey and respect him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Were I to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would have commanded the woman to prostrate to her husband." The best of women is she who pleases him when he looks at her, and obeys him when he commands. The husband should not reciprocate his wife’s mistreatment with mistreatment; rather, he should admonish her, then abandon her in bed, then strike her if she persists, while reminding himself of the Prophet’s, peace and blessings be upon him, exhortation to treat women kindly, and that the best of people are those best to their families. Both should exercise wisdom and overlook some rights for the marital life to continue.
