A Muslim is required to be truthful in all his actions, keeping away from lies and deceit. Truthfulness guides to righteousness and leads to Paradise, while lying guides to wickedness and leads to the Fire. Lying in trade removes blessing. You must advise your brother to stop practicing lying to gain material wealth. Truthfulness in dealings has a great reward, and the truthful and trustworthy merchant will be with the prophets, the truthful, and the martyrs. As for your share of the mentioned money, it is not forbidden for you; at most, it is شبهة (dubious) money. Avoiding it is out of piety and precaution, not an obligation.
