Is it permissible for a wife to see her deceased husband and wash him if there is no one else to wash him?

It is permissible for a woman to see her husband after his death and to wash him. This is the correct view among scholars, even if there is someone else available to wash them. Evidence for this is the statement of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): "If we had known in advance what we learned later, none would have washed the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) except his wives." Also, Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq instructed that his wife, Asma bint Umays, wash him, and she did so. And Abu Musa was washed by his wife, Umm Abdullah. Similarly, it is permissible for a man to wash his wife if she dies, as Ibn al-Mundhir narrated that Ali ibn Abi Talib washed Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) after her death.
