The Fire has several names mentioned in the Book of Allah the Almighty, among them: Jahannam, Al-Hutama, Saqar, Al-Jahim, Ladha, Al-Sa'ir, and Al-Hawiyah. Each of these names appeared in Quranic verses referring to it, such as His saying, the Almighty: "Indeed, Hell has been an ambush," (78:21) and "And what can make you know what is al-Hutamah? It is the fire of Allah, kindled," (104:5-6) and "I will cast him into Saqar." (74:26) and "And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviants," (26:91) and "No! Indeed, it is a raging Fire," (70:15) and "a group in Paradise and a group in the Blaze." (42:7) and "his mother will be Hawiyah." (101:9) Al-Qurtubi interpreted the naming of Al-Hawiyah as "his mother" to mean that a person will seek refuge in it just as he seeks refuge in his mother.
