If the oaths pertain to different matters, then for each oath that was broken, an expiation is required. Repentance from sins and transgressions is also obligatory. If the number of oaths is unknown and cannot be ascertained, one should expiate for what is most likely to clear one's conscience. Expiation for oaths must primarily be done by feeding the poor. If one is unable to do so, then by fasting for three days for each oath. Expiation does not necessitate exhausting all one's wealth; rather, one should retain what is necessary for essential needs. Any remaining oaths are then expiated by fasting.
