How many hours a day is it recommended for students of Islamic sacred knowledge to read, and is it permissible to seek guidance in this regard from the words of the people of knowledge?

A knowledge seeker should not restrict themselves to listening to tapes and reading books; rather, they must accompany scholars and righteous people. Whoever does not master the fundamentals will be deprived of reaching the goal. It is necessary to establish and build a foundation for every discipline by mastering its origin and concise text with a proficient shaykh, while progressing gradually in seeking knowledge. As for combining two or more fields of knowledge in learning, it varies depending on the learners. The fundamental principle in seeking knowledge is through instruction and reception from teachers, and direct oral transmission from elders; for knowledge is a craft that requires a craftsman.
