What is the ruling on clasping the hands in prayer?

The clasping of the hands in prayer is a well-established Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, meaning placing the right hand over the left during the standing posture. This is the view of the majority of scholars. Their placement should be on the chest, which is established in the Sunnah, whereas placing them below the navel is weak. The manner of clasping is by placing the palm of the right hand over the palm of the left, and the wrist and forearm, or by gripping the left hand with the right.
