Is it permissible to pray behind a traveling Imam who shortens the prayer with the intention of continuing to shorten it throughout his three-year stay for study, and is it obligatory for him to pray as a follower behind a resident who performs the complete prayer?

The majority of jurists hold that if a traveler intends to reside for a certain period, he must complete the prayer, and the preponderant opinion is that this period is four days or more. Therefore, it is advised not to pray behind those who shorten their prayers for three years, and we advise them to complete their prayers; because for one who holds the permissibility of shortening the prayer, his prayer is not invalidated by completing it, unlike one who obligates completing the prayer due to the intention of residence, whose prayer would be invalidated by shortening it during this period.
