Is it permissible to lie to avoid envy, especially if it does not harm the other party and equivocation cannot be used?

Lying is one of the major sins, prohibited by the Qur'an, Sunnah, and scholarly consensus. It is only permissible if it serves a praiseworthy purpose that cannot be achieved otherwise. If a person fears envy by stating the truth, they may use equivocations (tawriyah) to avoid forbidden lying.
