Is it permissible to eat locusts, and how would their permissibility be determined?

It is permissible to eat locusts even if they are dead, and they are lawful, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Two dead animals and two types of blood have been made lawful for us. As for the two dead animals, they are fish and locusts. As for the two types of blood, they are the liver and the spleen." And their ritual slaughter is their death, so their dead bodies are pure.
