Is it permissible to say "Subhan Allah" (Glory be to Allah) or "La ilaha illa Allah" (There is no god but Allah) during the Friday sermon, especially when the preacher asks the congregants to affirm the oneness of Allah?

Some scholars have permitted dhikr (remembrance of Allah) during thehutbah when there is a reason for it, while others have permitted it absolutely. However, it is preferable to refrain from it and listen attentively to the khutbah. Khatibs (preachers) should also be advised that issuing commands for dhikr during the khutbah contravenes the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the practice of his Companions and the Tabi'in. Indeed, there is good in following (the tradition) and evil in innovation.
