Is it permissible to keep a dog for guarding in the house, and does the ruling differ if the person is secure and wishes to keep the dog with the intention of guarding?

Scholars have permitted keeping a dog for legitimate purposes such as guarding or warning to ward off enemies' evil, provided it is kept away from the reach of children and family, due to the impurity of its essence, so a Muslim is not allowed to touch or carry it.
