The story of the Samiri and his misleading of the people of Moses into worshipping the calf is mentioned in books of exegesis and the Holy Quran. The Samiri made the calf from gold and cast into it a handful of dust from the spot where Gabriel's horse had trod, whereupon it began to low, becoming a real calf.
