I want to know the correct method for women to purify themselves from urine – is it by just sprinkling water or by wiping the area with the hand? I wipe with my hand out of fear of water entering, and I doubt the correctness of this method due to touching the private parts. So, what is the correct and safe method? And should touching the genital area be avoided during purification?
All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and companions. To proceed:
Merely sprinkling water or wiping it is not sufficient for istinja’ (cleaning oneself after relieving oneself). Rather, it is obligatory to pour water and let it flow over the site of impurity until purification is achieved.
It is permissible for a woman to touch the outer part of her private parts when performing istinja’. She is only obligated to wash what becomes visible when she relieves herself, and she is not obligated to wash the inside of the vagina because its ruling is that of an inner part.
For a woman, it is sufficient in her istinja’ with water to wash what becomes visible from her when she squats on her feet.
