Is food considered halal if its source is a Muslim country?
Seeking out what is lawful is commendable, but it should not lead to extremism and excessive scrupulousness, where one abandifies something that has no doubt about its permissibility, out of fear of sin. The basic principle regarding all things is permissibility and purity until something necessitates their prohibition. One must strive to acquire knowledge to distinguish between what is lawful and what is unlawful. What is clearly established as forbidden should be abandoned. As for what is doubtful, it is better to avoid it, based on the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "Whoever guards himself against doubtful matters has indeed acquitted himself with regard to his religion and his honor." However, regarding what is not doubtful, to doubt its permissibility is a blameworthy form of piety. One must consult people of knowledge about what is unclear.
