What is the ruling on one who does not purify himself from ritual impurity (janabah) while being aware of his state?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Allah Almighty has made ghusl from janabah obligatory and has made tayammum a substitute for it when water is unavailable or one is unable to use it. He has also warned those who do not purify themselves from it. Whoever denies the obligation of purification from janabah is a disbeliever, by the consensus of Muslims. As for one who neglects purification without denying its obligation, he is sinful and deserving of punishment, and there is disagreement regarding his disbelief. It is forbidden for one who is in a state of janabah to pray, circumambulate the Kaaba, touch the Quran, recite the Quran, or stay in the mosque until he performs ghusl.
