What is the ruling on publishing pictures of a person deceased in an accident, considering the sanctity of the deceased?

Photographic images are a matter of scholarly disagreement. Some scholars have prohibited them by analogy with all other types of images, while others have permitted them due to the absence of the علة (underlying reason/rationale) of imitating Allah's creation. The image of a deceased person shares the same ruling as their image when alive. If a Shariah-compliant benefit is intended from it, such as completing an investigation, then it is permissible to keep it. Otherwise, it is more prudent not to keep it.
